POWER6 withdrawal and its implications
In his article posted on ‘The Register’, Feb 8th, Timothy Morgan comments on IBM’s planned withdrawl timetable for the POWER6 server range. He points out that one option for customers considering purchasing POWER6 after these dates is the Used market, but I wonder if that is the route that most POWER customers will want to consider?
IBM Service and Education Vouchers
For some years IBM have offered Service and Education vouchers when purchasing IBM POWER with i/OS. As these were not available to systems that had been upgraded, often these are forgotten when a new system is purchased. With POWER7 having so few upgrades, in most instances Clients will be able to claim the vouchers.
IBM V5R4 Support Extended to September 2012
IBM have announced that support for i/OS V5R4 will end September 2012 rather than the earlier date of April 2012.
