IBM’s AS/400, iSeries, POWER i/OS (call it what you will) has a loyal community of users and devotees that rightly appreciate this enduring platform’s penchant for business computing. Those users recognise that whilst POWER i/OS is a widely installed platform, it is niche enough that the opportunity to interact and share with other like minded users has enormous value. With that in mind, Applied Technologies are delighted to have been influential in establishing i-Community – a key aim of which is to help its members maximise the benefit of their investment in IBM i over time.
The community
i-Community exists to serve IBM i/OS users in the UK. Group members obtain real benefit from sharing experiences and concerns in a peer network, and from face-to-face meetings led by top IBM and Business Partner speakers.
i-Community is a non-commercial environment; it is not aimed at marketing any product or service, rather it is a non-profit-making peer group facilitated by its sponsors. Numbers of session attendees are kept low enough to permit a high level of interaction. The full annual membership subscription covers all costs for one delegate at the spring UK meeting and on the autumn Rochester visit, including the return flight to Minneapolis, with a small uplift to cover overheads. A UK-only subscription is also available.
i-Community sessions are realistic, example driven, and will typically look at the subject area from both a technical and a business viewpoint. The topics covered are chosen by the community. They cover IBM i infrastructure and development matters, but also non-IBM i-specific subjects of general interest to members, such as compliance or unified communications. Topics are occasionally led by groups of members, with an IBM representative present to handle questions. It is the organisation that is the member, not any individual, so attendees can be chosen to suit the topic.
Applied Technologies believes that by promoting interaction and collaboration amongst the IBM POWER i/OS user group, we are helping our clients make best use of the platform.
i-Community is open to any POWER i/OS user, regardless of whether you are an Applied Technologies customer or not.
