It seems that the decision to withdraw support for V5R4 is still in the balance.  IBM are caught between two camps.  The customer would like to see support extended further but the Independent Software Vendors (ISV) and IBM/IBM Resellers are keen to see support withdrawn.  The ISV’s will benefit as they will have less versions to support whilst the IBM/IBM Resellers of POWER i view it as a reason / opportunity to change.

As it stands the likely date for withdrawal of support will be Sept / Oct 2012, but until announced this could change.

Please use this website to keep an eye on the support position of all i/OS levels:

This has no effect on the withdrawal from marketing of V5R4 which takes effect 27th May 2011.  Following this date there are no low end systems that will support V5R4.  The entry point into i/OS will be V6R1.
