HP has always had a broad offering in their portfolio incorporating storage, hardware and services. Industry talk would now have you believe that they’re also looking to add an OS to that armour.

webOS, the hugely popular Smartphone operating system, was shrewdly acquired last year when HP  bought Palm, an acquisition that cost them 1.2Billion US dollars.

As of Q1 2012, all HP PCs will ship with the option to run webOS in conjunction with Microsoft Windows.  The road map for product development also shows that HP will introduce this OS to the eagerly anticipated iPad challenging ‘touch pad’ as well as smart phones and printers.

I think HP is being extremely clever in the way they’re taking this to Market. We’ve all seen Apple, Google and Linux working hard to wrestle anything even those considered to be scraps away from the desktop operating system “dinner table”.  HP is treading on no one’s toes as webOS will run in browser format from inside a windows environment.

So, a co-existence for the moment….. Let’s keep a beady eye on this one though.
